My tenant just recently moved out, and I discovered an unpaid $994 bill from the gas company that he never paid. Here's the kicker - the bill was in my name! I never gave them permission to provide him with propane, certainly not under my name. I called to tell them I hadn't ordered any propane (or used any!) and gave them his name and telephone number. I have the notarized lease agreement that clearly states in it that he is responsible for all utilities, including gas. Can the propane company come after me for this? What do I do?
