Notice to Vacate

My elderly father-in-law will be vacating his home in Arizona to move to another state to live with family due to health reasons.  For the past 8 months, he has had "a friend" living with him in exchange for cooking and cleaning.  She was informed (verbally) several weeks ago that dad would be moving and the house closed up.  I am planning to give her a written Notice to Vacate, but this is happening in 10 days.  I am concerned with violating any tenant rights.  Please advise.
