NJ TENANT PUT UTILITY BILL IN MINOR CHILDS NAME AND SS#

I just found out that the gas bill for my NJ tenant is addressed to their minor child. I checked with the gas company and they said the name has to match the social security number only. They do not check age. What if they leave with a delinquent bill? Who is responsible if the account is under a minor's name? Why can't people just be honest? Barbara

While it is definitely not kosher and very fishy I don't think it will effect you. At least here in Indiana you as landlord can not be held responsible for any utilities left owing by a tenant with the exception of sewer.
