I have a prospect tenant to lease my townhouse property but he has been maintaining out of sate id . He claims that he has been living in Virginia for over 2 years. Should I insist him to obtain Virginia state ID and provide me, or should it be ok to consider out of state id ? Please clarify

A local ID does not matter but be sure to definitely run a background check on them that includes credit and nationwide criminal report. I personally rent to students often and many of them do not have the same state ID. They key is the solid tenant screening followed up by employer history and references. Always follow up on past employers as well as landlords.
