Electronic Signatures - Are they allowed?

I sent my tenants the EZLandlord Lease in a PDF format. They electronically signed (altered the pdf FORMAT) and sent it back to me. My realtor says it is a legally binding, but I don't think it is unless I have an agreement to accept e-signatures. I am also not sure what software program to get to allow this and handle it professionally and legally. Any suggestions?

The Uniform Residential Landlord Tenant act states the definition of “Sign” means, with present intent to authenticate or adopt a record, to execute or adopt a tangible symbol; to attach to or logically associate with the record an electronic symbol, sound, or process; or to send an electronic mail bearing the sender’s name or electronic mail address.
