What is the best way to figure out the monthly rent you should charge? There is only 1 other rent home near mine so I am charging what he charges. My home is larger and more updated but it is still a higher monthly than most in my city. Feeling I might have trouble finding a renter, but I also want to get what my property is worth.

I say whatever you can get, if you don't get a lot of responses you can always lower it.

You can also renting out your apartment through real estate consultants in your area. I use Kingsbury Homes rental listing in Salado, TX for renting out an apartment.
