Legal issue... Am I liable?

Simply put: Rent is late... Tenant wants me to create new lease under her mother-in-law's name. She is currently Month to Month. I believe she may be trying to avoid paying PSEG (utility co) minimum payment to keep lights on. I can't imagine that she is the first to think of this as a way of skating on utility payments. Assuming I'm right and I do this for her, am I guilty of any criminal offense or open to civil suit by Utility Co.? Thank you!!!! Larry Collins in New Jersey

This seems fishy! I don't think this sounds right. I would go with your gut on this.
