New York City owners of buildings built after 1978 must provide Tenants with this annual notice about window guard requirements and regulations.

Appendix B - Window Guards Required

If your building was built after 1978, the Annual Notice to Tenant (Appendix B) must be completed by Tenants each year. This Notice:

  • Informs Tenants that window guards must be installed if a child 10 years or younger lives in the apartment;
  • Advises occupants that any Tenant may request window guards and the Landlord is required to install them;
  • Advises Tenants that it’s a violation of local laws to refuse, interfere with the installation of, or remove window guards;
  • Asks Tenants to check a box letting the Landlord know whether a child under 10 currently lives in the unit; whether window guards are currently installed; whether additional window guards are needed; and/or whether the current window guards need any maintenance or repair.
