Maine Landlords who collect a security deposit must provide Tenants with a security deposit receipt within 30 days of receiving the deposit.

Maine Revised Statute § 6022 requires Maine Landlords to provide Tenants with a security deposit receipt within 30 days of receiving the deposit. The receipt must include:


  • The date of the payment
  • The amount paid
  • The name of the Tenant for whom the payment is made
  • The period for which the payment is being made
  • A statement that the payment is made for the security deposit
  • The signature of the person receiving the security deposit
  • The printed name of the person receiving the deposit
