Michigan Landlords who collect a security deposit must provide Tenants with a Security Deposit Receipt within 14 days of the Tenant taking possession of the unit.

Michigan Lease Requirements: Security Deposit Receipt

Under Michigan law, if a Landlord collects a security deposit, the Landlord must provide the Tenant with a receipt that includes:

  • The Landlord’s name and address for communications and notices
  • The name and address of the financial institution where the deposit will be held
  • Specific language about the Tenant’s obligation to provide a forwarding address within 4 days of the end of the Tenancy

The Landlord must provide the Tenant with this receipt within 14 days of the start of the tenancy.

Our Michigan Security Deposit Receipt complies with Michigan law and can be attached as an addendum to your Michigan Lease Agreement.
