No written lease agreement

I am wondering if there is no written signed lease agreement and the tenant was paying month to month, if they can be liable for the lease?

I like trick question....If there is no sign lease  agreement, what lease are you referring to? -----Disclaimer: Since I’ve been answering a lot of questions, I thought I would make the following statement. I’m not affiliated with EZlandlord Forms. I’m just here (not sure how long) to help those that have questions. Having 40+ yrs with Rental Property and done well, it’s my way of “Pay it Forward (check out the movie).” However, it is up to you to become familiar with your State/Local laws. I always like to know if the suggestions I offer are helpful. Feel free to comment anytime. Thanks in Advance. BTW...check out the Rental Property Organizer at Simp-List.com.
You may be out of luck. Read Leases - "If anything were to go wrong, most judges will not even let “oral agreements” be presented in court." @ http://jeffco.us/jeffco/health_uploads/secondhandsmoke/Landlord___Tenant_Rights_2009.pdf.  -----Disclaimer: Since I’ve been answering a lot of questions, I thought I would make the following statement. Yes, trick questions, let me be more specific.  If there was a verbal agreement between renter and landlord, and there was no lease signed, can the renter be sued for leaving without notice, assuming that it was a month to month lease?
Thank you!  I really appreciate your help.
