Lease required?

Hello, all... Can anyone tell me if Oregon actually REQUIRES a written lease to enforce after-the-fact non-payment of rent monies and/or damages in the small claims arena? I didn't have a written lease for renters that actively paid for about six-months and now I'm trying to sue them for unpaid rent and damages, etc.. ~Shaud

In any state a written lease is not required. A contract by word of mouth will hold up. However you would have to file a written eviction with the court. Any documentation that you have will help you to evict as well as regain losses if needed. Also with a verbal lease these are mostly month to month leases which you only need a 30 day notice to end the lease.
