Can I accept prepaid rent from a tenant prospect

I am careful and take applications through Transition and EZ landlords smart move and got a peculiar "recommendation" for a tenant couple with low scores and modest credit... but....they have a tremendous amount of late student debt, past court filings from landlords, etc... yet based on financials, Transition recommended them as Grade 'B". They offered to pay up to 6 months up front dba double security deposit.   I am a by the books type of landlord... Can I legally accept a rent prepayment and a double security deposit in North Carolina?  Thanks
