Lease termination

If 4 tenants signed the same month-to-month lease (1 lease with 4 people's name), and a few months later one tenant  decides to leave after giving a proper notice to the landlord and rest tenants, does that mean this lease is no longer valid and a new lease will need to be established with the rest 3 tenants if they want to stay? This is in California. Thanks.
