advanced rent

Hi, my landlord wants my husband and I to pay our rent 1 month in advance. example our rent is due on April 1st no later than the 5th, after 5th it is considered late. When we pay our April rent he also wants us to pay Mays rent. So were a paying two rents in one month. Is this legal?
