Running credit checks for new tenants

This is the first time that I am renting a property and I wanted to know the proper procedure in running someone's credit history.  What companies do I use and what do I have to do so I am allowed to run their credit history?

If the tenants sign a rental application with an authorization (like the one on this site), you can go to a site like www.saferent.com or www.ntnonline.com to do the credit check.
