Mold in Stepdaughters Apartment

Hi my stepdaughter just moved into a "completely remodeled" apartment about 2 mths ago they are now having problems with fuzzy mold/mildew growing on window sills in the house and a closet wall with extensive mold. My question is can they break the lease? or what should we do? All 3 of the roomates are now experiencing asthma like symptoms and two of the three are actually now on inhalers due to careover symptoms from "colds" that arent seeming to go away. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated thank you in advance. Tanya

First things first, put your problem in writing and give your landlord a chance to remediate.
