Early Terminating Co-tenant question.

Short story version, a co-tenant (listed on lease as such) terminated early, just up and left to California. Before doing so she stated she would pay us for her portion of the remaining months on the lease. Once she moved she changed her mind and said we're not getting a dime. Lease expires in September, she left last month. What I'm understanding from google searches is come September after the lease is up, we can sue her for her unpaid rent. Is this so? And if so, what sort of things should I prepare to bring to court?
