City Zoning

I am currently a property owner of 7 single family homes.  Our town is trying to change zoning laws to require us to apply for a permit each year to remit these properties and have listed. Long list of requirements for all landlords. They want to charge us for each unit and will require an inspection.  I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this and how they handled the city  e zoning rules will only apply to a rental property, this seems to be discriminating against landlords. Is there anyway to be a grandfathered landlord?

If you are a current owner you may be able to fight this along with your history of good property management. This may only effect new landlords or property owners and should you need to fight this you may be able to use the argument of how it could ruin the housing market in your area on the grounds that you will not be able to resell the units or full property because of these new laws. You would need to gather other local landlords to petition against this or come to a common ground. Also this may effect housing associations that charge a fee to already be part of a community.
