Repairs made to home due to changing of inspection code

I recently made renovations to my home, and the township inspected after completion.  Their code changed since I bought the house over 30 years ago, and now they require that the stairs have barrier railings, and also have required me to change the plumbing s-traps to p-traps.  This all cost a lot of money.  Is work that is mandated by the township inspection tax deductible as opposed to an improvement that is depreciated?

Any repairs or modifications to an investment is tax deductible for federal, states may vary. Just google.
