Gutter Cleaning

I am using the residential lease agreement for Virginia, and while it states several responsibilities of the tenant including snow and ice removal from stairs and walkways and maintaining lawn and landscaping, it does not specifically mention gutters.  Is it my responsibility or the tenants to clean the gutters?

If the lease agreement does not specifically mention gutters, it may be difficult to determine who is responsible for cleaning them. Generally speaking, the responsibility for maintaining the property falls on the landlord, while the responsibility for keeping the property clean and in good condition falls on the tenant.

In Virginia, there are no specific laws or regulations regarding who is responsible for cleaning gutters. Therefore, it may be helpful to review the lease agreement to determine if it provides any guidance on this issue. If the lease agreement is silent on the matter, it may be best to discuss the issue with the tenant and come to a mutual agreement about who will be responsible for cleaning the gutters.

It's important to note that maintaining the property is a shared responsibility, and both landlords and tenants should work together to keep the property in good condition. If the gutters need to be cleaned and neither the landlord nor the tenant is willing or able to do so, it may be necessary to hire a professional to take care of the task.
